Is it Kosher?
Over the past twenty two months I’ve had the great privilege to stand week by week with the “Rossendale Pals of Palestine” peace group who have been peacefully expressing our joint horror at the ongoing genocide in Gaza. In August 2025 we took our protest to the office of our local MP Andy MacNae, to give him the opportunity to speak with us on this most crucial life and death matter – especially as he hasn’t (to date) responded to any of our invitations to discuss it.
Ironically, the tongue in cheek soundtrack I chose to accompany this video “Is it Kosher?” is something I recorded over 25 years ago, albeit back then from a totally different perspective. And yet it seems freshly applicable to the current atrocity being live-streamed round the clock, despite the supposed cease-fire.
kosher” means — clean, legitimate, acceptable to eat, proper. Consequently if something isn’t “kosher,” it’s considered incorrect and untrustworthy. Hey and I’m a gentile… but I still wouldn’t eat it…if you know what I mean?
Our Pilgrimage
Peace Pilgrimage Part 1 – Beginning in Bardsey (March 2025)
In this episode, we take a temporary side-step from the “Spears into Secateurs” saga in order to share a few highlights from our twelve day-peace-pilgrimage. Which follows another quirky Breakspear road trip ~meandering through the breathtaking coastline of North, Mid and South Wales, all the way down to ‘Lands End’ Cornwall. Making lots of little detours en route, praying for an end to war — specifically the Gazan bloodbath!!!
Three modern day (bungling pilgrims) AKA Dave ‘Digger’Baker, Dan Sharp cameraman/recordist and me-self Nick Breakspear, set off ‘in pursuit of peace.’
Lured by an intriguing tale we heard, about a ‘Just knight’ called St Petroc/St Petrog from the Middle Ages. The story goes — Petroc became so traumatised after the bloody Battle of Camlan, that he broke his spear in two. He then carried that broken weapon for the rest of his days, signifying he’d turned his back on killing to become a man of peace.
Had this historical uncovering arrived as a timely reminder? Reminding us of what Jesus ‘the Prince of Peace’ declared in His ‘Sermon on the Mount’ to wannabe followers … “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”.
🌬️Time to do justice, me thinks, and love mercy, afore it’s too late🕊️
Peace Pilgrimage Part 2 – Cornwall and Beyond
Our springtime peace pilgrimage concludes in deepest Cornwall with a spirited roundup of events, over a very quaffable Chardonnay night cap with the very Reverend John Eatock, who treated us to tons of inspiring tales concerning the ancient Celts of Cornwall and beyond.
